Itinerary

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Day 1

Arrival in UB by Air China. Visit of the city: Sukhbataatar Square, Choijin Lama Museum, Natural history Museum. Overnight in Edelweiss hotel.

Baga Gazriin Chuluu

Day 2

We will drive to the Baga Gazriin Chuluu. This 1750 m high basalt and granite rock formation is beautifully located in the middle of nowhere. This rock mountain contains ruins of Buddhist meditation temple that belonged to the 17th century. We will have some scenic photo opportunities and continue drive to the Sum Huh Burd, a small island with ruins of ancient temple and loads of birds. Lunch at the ger camp. Dinner and overnight at Erdene ukhaa camp.

Baga Gazrin Chuluu - Mandal Ovoo - Bayanzag – Gobi Naran Camp

Day 3

Morning drive to Goviin Naran Camp. Afternoon visit Bayanzag ancient red rock creation, formed 60-70 million years ago, famous as Flamming Cliifs named by Roy Andrew Chapman, an American explorer who visited Mongolia in 1920s. The striking red Bayanzag cliffs have dinosaur fossils, eggs and bones all over the place and neighbored by bushy Saxual tree forests. Lunch at Gobi oasis-2. Dinner and overnight in Goviin Naran camp.

Goviin Naran Camp - Yol Valley - Khongoriin Els

Day 4

We will drive to the majestic Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park where we will enjoy incredible “Yol Valley”. The valley is the unusual narrow canyon of a river that flows through the Zuun Saikhan Mountain. The sheer rock walls stand 200m and the canyon has stunning green meadows with thick glacier layer that is deeply set between the walls. During the summer rainfall water runs from the top of the walls forming waterfalls. We will trek along the canyon and may have an opportunity to glimpse rarely found wild sheep Argali, mountain goat Ibex and Yol Lammergeier. Drive to the Khongor Els sand dunes via Dungeene Canyon. In the afternoon we will see marvelous Khongoriin Els dunes that stretch for an extraordinary 180 kms as wide as 7-20km. The dunes lie on the northern part of beautifully formed mountain range Servei and Zuulun. The sound of masses of wind-blown sand can be heard from the long distance. This sound is so melodic so 200m high sand dunes called as “Singing Dunes”. There is an oasis called Khongor River with stunning greenery in the summer. We will have an opportunity to ride two humped Bacterian camel named by locals “Prince of Gobi” and see camel breeder’s everyday life. Lunch at Bayandalai. Dinner and overnight in ger camp Gobi Discovery Camp.

Khongorin Els - Gurvantes

Day 5

Drive to Gurvantes sum of Southern Mongolia. Local exploration and overnight in tent.

Gurvantes - Khermen Tsav

Day 6

After breakfast, we will drive to the Khermen Tsav. On the way, we will visit Naran Daats, small spring on the top of the hill. In the afternoon we will arrive in the Khermen Tsav so called Kingdom of Dinosaurs an red looking canyon found deep in the spirits of desert that stretches for 15-20 km. 65-250 million years ago Khermen Tsav was an ocean bed. Millions of years wind and water erosion formed this majestic looking canyon with moon surface shapes and many precious findings of Dinosaurs’ eggs, bones and fossils. Trekking along the canyon and feel the spirits. Overnight in a tent in the canyon. Overnight in tent.

Khermen Tsav

Day 7

Visit in Khermen Tsav. After breakfast, we will drive to the direction of north through the liveless desert; arid land plants, empty open universe and changing landscape from desert to steppe. We will see Ikh Bogd (Great Holy) Mountain with a height of 3957m at 1200m above the sea level. Small sand dunes are located in the neighboring areas. Overnight in tent.

Kerman Tsav - Bayangovi

Day 8

It is situated approximately 40 kilometers south of the Lake Orog Nuur, 170 km from provincial capital Bayankhongor and 650 km south-west of Ulaanbaatar. Bayangovi is surrounded by the Ikh Bogd mountain range, and by desert. Outside the small town of Bayangovi are a number of desert sites of natural and cultural interest. Visit of Bayangiin Nuruu Petroglyfs. Overnight in Gobi Camel lodge.

Bayangovi - Shargaljuut Valley /Taats Valley / Jaracaland Valley

Day 9

We will drive through the waterless Orog Lake with beautiful surrounding. We will drive to the province capital Bayankhongor. In the afternoon, we will arrive Shargaljuut/Taats/Jaracaland. Overnight in tent .

Shargaljuut Valley / Taats Valley / Jaracaland Valley - Orkhon Valley

Day 10

After breakfast, we will drive to the Orkhon River and its valley. Lunch??? Dinner and overnight at Khurkhree Tour Camp

Orkhon Valley - Karakorum

Day 12

In the morning we will visit the Orkhon waterfall which is situated in the Orkhon river, that flows 1120 km; the longest river in Mongolia. The local name of the waterfall is Ulaan Tsutgalan and the height is 24m, waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20 000 years ago. The water level of the waterfall depends on the rainfall. Drive to Kharkhorin the ancient Capital of Great Mongolian Empire. Kharkhorin was established in the valley of Orkhon river in 1220. Kharkhorin played significant role in Mongolian history and was a capital city of the Great Mongolian Empire until Khubilai Khaan, a grandson of Chinggis Khaan moved the capital to Beijing of Yuan Dynasty. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery was founded by Avtai Sain Khaan, descendant of Chinggis Khaan, on the ruins of Kharkhorin in 1586. The monastery is surrounded by beautiful looking white walls with 108 stupas. Lunch and Dinner and overnight at Urguu Ger Camp.

Karakorum - Hustai National Park - Khustai N.P. - UB

Day 13

We will drive to the Hustai National Park. The park lies in the foothills of southern Khentii mountain range and it is the place where you can see wild horse called Takhi known as Przewalski horse to the world. The wild horses survive in nature by themselves because they have been reintroduced successfully to their homeland after 40 years of extinction. Currently, the number of Takhi has already reached more than 170. Drive to Ulaanbaatar. Lunch at Hoyor zagal ger camp. Dinner and overnight at Edelweiss Hotel.

Day 14

Continue city tour including visits to Gandan Monastery, Gengis Khan Museum, Bogd Khaan Palace. Enjoy a cultural performance before last dinner in Mongolia. Lunch and dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in Edelweiss hotel.
