Day 1
Arrive in UB& transfer to hotel. (App 60km) City tour & lunch (Sukhbaatar square, Gandan monastery, statue of Migjid Janraiseg, Zaisan memorial, a museum of choice.)
Day 2
Breakfast at hotel. Tour the opening ceremony of Naadam at the Central Stadium. Enjoy sports and cultural performances. In the afternoon wrestling and archery contest.. Naadam's folk concert. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3
This is the main horse racing venue for Naadam near Ulaanbaatar. Races are held on open steppe, not a stadium track. Distances are long: ~15 km for young horses and up to 30 km for adult horses This is one of the most unique (and surprising) parts of Naadam. Overnight in gers.
Day 4
After breakfast drive to Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia. Visit Erdene Zuu, once one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia and almost destroyed in the 1930s. Tour of the monastery grounds and several chapels with excellent examples of Buddhist iconography dating from the 16th century. Visit to the symbolic ruins of Karakorum, the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire. Return to Karakorum base camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5
After breakfast drive to Bayangobi. Arrive in Bayangobi. Visit to a horse-breeder's family and Uvgunt Monastery. Return to base camp. Overnight at the ger camp.
Day 6
Bayangobi/Ulaanbaatar, 280kmAfter breakfast drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Arrive in the afternoon. Tour of the Natural History Museum. Overnight at the hotel.
